Much like basket bags, the humble straw hat is having a second wind this summer, no doubt thanks to its highly instagrammable and wanderlust-inducing factor.

Yes, hats are very much (still) in, according to the many fashion editors and influencers who’ve been sporting oversized straw hats on their beach holidays.

Even if, like myself, you’re not a hat person, you’ll appreciate the old-school glamour of the headpiece, which adds a chic finishing touch to a simple swimsuit (the must-have swimwear this season). In one accessory, you can instantly add a touch of Riviera chic to your wardrobe.

With this trend, be bold: honestly, the bigger the better. You can go minimal a la Jacquemus with a paired-back – though giant – version (still sold out everywhere sadly), or go for a style adorned with an elegant black ribbon or a cheeky slogan (the below ‘do not disturb’) is my favourite.

And even though this is best worn on the beach, you can get away with wearing it on the cobbles too, with a linen dress or silk cami and jeans combo.

Although this might seem like a fad to you, it’s honestly worth investing in a good quality hat. Think about it, it’ll last you a lifetime of holidays, the ultimate cost per wear. Marysia is still my go-to for these, as you’ll find anything from the mini to the oversized, all adorned with feminine bows.

On the high street, ASOS has a giant floppy hat, perfect if you’re into the Jacquemus vibes. Elsewhere, H&M and Monsoon have some great styles too.
