The longest champagne bar in the world can be found at St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys, and if that isn’t a good enough reason to visit, then we don’t know what is. If you need another one, then it also has an excellent selection of English sparkling wines, which we went along to try.
From the off the service is impressive; a whole team flocked one after the other with water, bread, to take our order and to check if we’re in need of anything. We were tempted to try our luck with a request for a mini shoulder rub but we just nodded a polite thank you instead.
Leek and potato soup arrived with wild garlic and a beautiful chicken fritter sunken in the middle, which immediately had us spooning around for more. The charcuterie with Scottish wild venison salami, Suffolk chorizo, Somerset pokers, cured ham, pickles and toasted bread was like a sweet, spicy and savoury selection box.
Stone bass fillet, mussels, clams and samphire with Jersey Royals in a shellfish sauce was rich with the chunky flakes of fish like little nuggets of joy. Another satisfying dish was the new season lamb cutlet with slow-cooked faggot, potato terrine, peas and courgette, which wasn’t as heavy as you might think. We ended on a super sweet egg custard tart with Yorkshire rhubarb and then felt very ready for a snooze.
Each course was paired to a different English sparkling wine, including Greyfriars, Nyetimber and Furleigh Estate, as advised by the experts and most definitely opened our eyes to a whole new world of wine.
