My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James will kick off a short tour of swing district college towns next month, in a nonpartisan attempt to motivate students to vote. James’ “The Future Is Voting” tour will include six performances at local theaters and colleges, all of which will be free for students. See the full list of dates below. The shows will function as concerts and town hall meetings focusing on the importance of voter turnout. The discussion portion of each event will feature a forum where students can speak to candidates and local representatives.
The tour commences October 7 at Emo’s in Austin, Texas. James will be joined by artists such as Benjamin Booker, Made of Oak (Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso), and other guests. “The importance of getting involved at this moment in time cannot be overstated,” James said in a statement. “This isn’t only a Get Out the Vote concert. This is a learning moment aimed at college students to motivate them to vote, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.”
