Although Alexa Chung has been a Superga ambassador since 2011, last season was the real turning point for the designer, as she created her very own capsule collection for the brand.
For SS18, she re-interpreted the classic Superga silhouette with different textures such as varnish, satin and terry towel, and colours such as burgundy and sky blue to create a capsule collection of 10 different styles. Needless to say, it went down pretty well, as did her campaign, which was shot in LA.
Now the designer, fresh off her first ever London Fashion Week show with her eponymous label, has collaborated on another capsule line, available to buy now here, and it’s honestly even better than the last.
The Superga x ALEXACHUNG autumn/winter 2018 collection focuses on an elegant chunkiness. Think new shapes that recall bowling shoes and luxe fabrics like suede and velvet. Alexa has drawn on Superga’s sports training heritage with the Alpina lug-sole, giving it a contemporary streetwear appeal that suits both booties and sneakers.
She said, ‘I think the first collection was about establishing a world between my brand and Superga that had its own visual language and in that sense I wanted it to be a celebration of the classic, the everyday, the idea that subtlety and nuance was ultimately timeless. With this second collection we take a walk on the wild side and become more playful and subversive. You have to learn the rules before you can break them.’
Alexa also features in the campaign, carrying on the theme of warmer fabrics by pairing the shoes with corduroy suits, denim and faux snake print separates. As for how to style them, it’s all about sticking to classics.
She says, ‘I might sound like a broken record by now but I really think you can’t go wrong with denim. It’s ubiquitous because it goes with everything.’
